Unforgettable highlights from the VRG Sports Festival in Cambodia.

CSVNO –Breathtaking serves, intense competitions, and passionate cheering from the crowd created unforgettable moments at the 2024 VRG Workers’ Sports Festival in Cambodia.

The Regional V Sports Festival in Cambodia will be held from June 24th to 26th at Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Farm. The event brings together 14 rubber production and business companies in the Kingdom of Cambodia, with nearly 480 athletes. Of these, 285 are Cambodian workers. Athletes will compete in six sports: football, volleyball, badminton, tennis, iron ball, and tug-of-war.

The three-day sports festival came to a thrilling conclusion on the morning of June 26th. Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Farm emerged victorious, while Dong Phu Kratie Rubber Farm and Dong Nai Kratie Rubber Farm secured the second-place positions. Hoang Anh Mang Yang K Rubber Farm, Krong Buk Ratanakiri Rubber Farm, Tan Bien Kampong Thom Rubber Farm, Vketi Rubber Farm, and Ba Ria Kampong Thom Rubber Farm rounded out the top three. Encouragement prizes were awarded to Phuoc Hoa Kampong Thom Rubber Farm, Mekong Rubber Farm, and Dau Tieng Cambodia Rubber Farm.

Nearly 480 athletes participated in the opening ceremony of the VRG Regional Sports Festival in Cambodia on the morning of June 24th. According to the organizing committee, approximately 60% of the athletes were Cambodian. Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Farm had the largest delegation.

Mr. Huynh Kim Nhut, Deputy General Director of the Group and Chairman of the Vietnam Rubber Union, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony. According to Mr. Nhut, the Workers’ Sports Festival is a traditional activity of the rubber industry, held biennially. Beyond creating an exciting atmosphere, it fosters solidarity, exchange, and learning among all units across the Group. The festival is also an opportunity to promote health and fitness among workers, which in turn contributes to improved productivity and work efficiency. Marking the first time that the VRG Sports Festival is held outside of Vietnam’s borders, Mr. Nhut hopes the event will serve as a playground for connection and exchange between Vietnamese and Cambodian workers.

The opening day of the Cambodia Regional Sports Festival saw athletes brimming with excitement.

The 2024 VRG Labor Union Sports Festival in Cambodia marks the debut of petanque, a popular sport in Cambodia. According to the organizing committee, 90% of the athletes registered to compete in petanque are Cambodian.

The couple Heang Lai Chy and Phat Napha, representing Chư Sê Kampong Thom Rubber Company, competed in petanque on June 24th. At the VRG Sports Festival in Cambodia, they won the gold and silver medals, respectively, in the petanque event.

Ngvieng Yang Tieng, a worker from Mang Yang K Rubber Company, traveled over 500km to Kampong Thom, excited to compete in petanque at the sports festival. Having been in the rubber industry for 4 years, he was thrilled to see his favorite sport included in the event. Tieng believes that this event is not only a chance for Cambodian workers to showcase their skills but also a platform for them to connect and unwind after a busy work period.

The rubber athletes from Bà Rịa Kampong Thom cheered loudly when their teammate scored a point in petanque.

On June 25th, the athletes from Vketi Rubber and Chư Sê Kampong Thom Rubber were fiercely competing for the ball.

Athletes Lê Thuận Dân and Trần Thị Thu Hoà, from Chư Sê Kampong Thom Rubber, won the most medals at this year’s sports competition.

The athletes from various companies clapped and sang along to the song “Vietnam-Cambodia samaki” (Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity) at the closing ceremony of the Cambodian regional sports competition on the morning of June 26th.

In a moving moment at the closing ceremony of the regional sports competition, Mr. Huynh Kim Nhut, Deputy General Director of VRG, and Mr. Chea Van Chan, Vice Governor of Kampong Thom, joined hands and sang along to the song “Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity”, symbolizing the strong bond between the two countries. Mr. Chea Van Chan commended VRG for the successful event, which provided a platform for local and Vietnamese workers to come together and have fun. He expressed the hope that VRG would continue to organize more such events in the future.

As part of the celebrations for the 57th anniversary of Vietnam-Cambodia diplomatic relations, the 95th anniversary of the Vietnamese rubber industry, and the 15th anniversary of Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Company, Mr. Chea Van Chan, Vice Governor of Kampong Thom, presented commemorative gifts to Mr. Huynh Kim Nhut and Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, General Director of the company. Mr. Nhut highlighted the significance of the regional V sports competition as a part of these commemorations.
Speaking on behalf of the host unit, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, General Director of Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Company, expressed his pride in hosting the first large-scale industry sports event in Cambodia. He highlighted the company’s significant efforts in building infrastructure, providing qualified referees and translators to ensure a successful event. Mr. Dung expressed his hope that this event would encourage local authorities to continue supporting rubber companies in their efforts to contribute to the local economy.

After three days of intense competition, the VRG 2024 Regional V Sports Competition in Cambodia concluded on the morning of June 26th with the athletes from Chu Se Kampong Thom Rubber Company emerging as the overall winners.
